![]() ![]() For example, Hammurabi's Code required accusers to bring the accused into court by themselves. There are differences between ancient Babylonians and today's laws. #Hammurabi code eye for an eye trial#All parties in a trial had to act honestly, and court officers had to be free of corruption so that the justice system could function effectively. Women had the right to buy and sell property and to obtain a divorce. The Code covers issues related to farming and herding animals, and the ownership and sale of slaves. The earliest known example of this expression is as one of the 282 laws of the Babylonian King Hammurabi (c.1790 BC). ![]() ![]() The code states that "if a physician make a large incision with the operating knife and kill him. Although the pay for doctors was good, they suffered severe punishments for fatal errors. Payment amounts for the work of doctors and other professionals are outlined. The code also gives rules for family matters such as marriage, divorce, incest, and adoption. Hammurabi's Code details how theft or destruction of property should be handled and gives guidelines for dealing with trade and business problems. For example, "If anyone bring an accusation of any crime before the elders, and does not prove what he has charged, if it be a capital offense charged, he shall be put to death." The code outlines rules for witnesses and those making accusations of crimes. If he has destroyed the eye of a gentleman's slave. If he has destroyed the eye of a commoner. "If a man has destroyed the eye of a man of the gentleman class, they shall destroy his eye. However, the Babylonians clearly did not live under a social system that treated all people equally. In the introduction, Hammurabi stated that he wanted "to make justice visible in the land, to destroy the wicked person and the evil-doer, that the strong might not injure the weak." The laws themselves protect widows, orphans, and others from being harmed or exploited. As his empire grew, he wanted to unify the various groups he controlled. Although he was concerned with keeping order in his kingdom, this was not his only reason for compiling the list of laws. Hammurabi ruled the Babylonian Empire from 1792-50 B.C.E.

![]() ![]() We know we will always face threats from people who want to access accounts and steal information," Facebook VP of Product Management Guy Rosen said during a conference call. ![]() On Friday, the company said hackers stole personal information from 29 million people. Attackers had stolen Facebook "access tokens" - digital keys that let them access people's accounts without needing a password. In September, the world's largest social network said it believed the breach impacted 50 million people. ![]() ![]() This breach comes on the heels of an entirely different mishandling of information by Facebook, and in the aftermath of Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal.ĭays after the Cambridge Analytica news broke, Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg told users, “ We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can't then we don't deserve to serve you.” Yup.A massive Facebook security breach affected fewer people than the company originally thought, but still millions of users had their phone numbers, emails and other information compromised, the tech giant said on Friday. This morning, in addition to resetting the access tokens and thus logging out the 50 million accounts that Facebook knows were affected, Facebook has also reset access tokens for another 40 million that been the subject of any View As look-up in the past year. That means that, if Alice used the View As feature to see what her profile would look like to Bob, then Bob’s account might have been compromised in this attack. Apparently, the View As feature inadvertently exposed access tokens for users who were “subject to” View As. It’s the reason you don’t have to log into your account every time you use the app or go to the website. The change allowed hackers to steal Facebook “access tokens.” An access token is a kind of “ key ” that controls your login information and keeps you logged in. (Facebook has temporarily disabled the feature as a precaution while it investigates further.) Facebook tracked this hack to a change it made to its video uploading feature over a year ago in July 2017, and how that change affected View As. At the center of this is the “View As” feature, which you can use to see how your profile appears to another user or to the public. What is clear is that the attack -like many security exploits-took advantage of the interaction of several parts of Facebook’s code. It is also unclear the extent to which user data was accessed and accounts misused. At this point, information is scant: Facebook does not know who’s behind the attacks or where they are from, and the estimate of compromised accounts could rise as the company’s investigation continues. Facebook forced more than 90 million Facebook users to log out and back into their accounts Friday morning in response to a massive data breach.Īccording to Facebook’s announcement, it detected earlier this week that attackers had hacked a feature of Facebook that could allow them to take over at least 50 million user accounts. If you found yourself logged out of Facebook this morning, you were in good company. ![]() ![]() ![]() Please fill out the CAPTCHA below and then click the button to indicate that you agree to these terms. These tracks demonstrate Waters’s potential as a storyteller as he recalls events and experiences that sound like they actually took place. ![]() On “Battlescars,” he narrates an intimate account of a failed relationship with a self-destructive girlfriend. On “Mountain of Glass,” he toasts to an alcoholic parent and then reflects on his own alcohol dependency. In fact, at no point on the record does our Aussie MC deviate from overt attempts at catchiness, as Chance employs a verse-poppychorus-verse formula on nearly every track.Īfter the first three songs, I guess our rapping producer moves on to being “dark.” He finds some introspective success. “The Catchy Song” is a failed parody in that the track is fairly compelling, not because of its insights, but because the chorus is really, really catchy. ![]() Apparently, catchy is a synonym for shallow I guess The Beatles never got the memo. The hypocrisy of this approach is most clearly demonstrated on “The Catchy Song,” where Chance accompanied by 360, Smiles, and Joyride rail against any catchy track, even going so far as to deride any song with a melody. This introduction to the album is unfortunate in that Waters talking about his own dark originality is neither dark nor original. K’Naan diagnosed this tendency pretty well on his latest when he said, “A lot of mainstream is yapping about yapping/a lot of underground is rapping about rapping.” Waters dedicates the first three songs of “Inkstains” entirely to rapping about rapping – namely, how dark and original his lyrics are. Phat suffers from the all-too-common talking-about-being-innovative-instead-of-being-innovative syndrome faced by “positive” rappers the world over. That being said, to a critic not particularly wrapped up in the Australian scene, the fact that Australian rap might be in a more infantile stage that American rap is no excuse for Aussie MCs to drop un-original shit, and if “Inkstains” is as innovative for Australian rap as its author proclaims it to be, then the MCs down under need to do some serious catching up. Hip-hop began in America, and while it is great that South Africa put its own spin on rap with Kwaito, and England did its own thing with Grime, it would border on bigotry to expect every rapper from another country to bring something totally new to the table simply because the artist is foreign. This is neither surprising nor problematic. Indeed, I’m not too familiar with the rap from Down Under, but if Chance is representative, then Australia-hop seems to takes its cues from the U.S. The LP is his solo debut, though he has been featured alongside a bunch of famous Australian rappers that most Americans probably haven’t heard of and I hadn’t heard of until I read the “Chance Waters” Wikipedia entry. In the end the Soviet approach to this challenge failed, and the reasons for this need to be examined, but the challenge overall remains for post-communist Russia.Put some shrimp on the barbie, Mate, because it’s time to dig into “Inkstains,” the new release from prominent Australian MC/producer Chance Waters, aka Phatchance. The idea of neo-modernisation, above all the idea that societies are challenged to come to terms with the ‘civilisation of modernity’, each in their own way, provides a key to developments. By attempting to stand outside the processes which it unleashed, both society and system entered a cycle of stagnation. The Soviet system was a sui generis approach to modernisation, but the great paradox was that the system did not apply this ideology to itself. We examine the issue through the prism of reformulated theories of modernisation. ![]() Following an examination of the various ‘why’ factors, we focus on ‘what’ exactly happened at the end of the Soviet period. However, the arbitrary prioritisation of one factor over another is equally a hermeneutic trap that needs to be avoided. It behoves the scholar to try to establish a hierarchy of causality, which is itself a methodological exercise in heuristics. As for the causes, it is easy to assume that the fall was ‘over-determined’, with an endless array of factors. Over two decades have passed since the dissolution of the communist system and the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991 yet there is still no consensus over the causes and consequences of these epochal (and distinct) events. ![]() ![]() The abstract factory pattern uses the factory method pattern for the creation of individual products.
